Oregon TE Spencer Webb dead after Tragic accident at Triangle Lake

According to reports, Spencer Webb tragically died Wednesday afternoon when he fell in Triangle Lake in Lane County. Spencer Webb, a promising young college football player, jumps off a cliff at Triangle Lake in Lane County, near his Eugene University, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Accidental death. The cause of death was Spencer Webb’s head injury in the accident.

After a home game at the University of Oregon, Webb was caught by Ducks fans and passed around like a beach ball at the concert. In three seasons at Oregon, Spencer Webb reportedly played in 20 games with 31 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns. He was set to be a great player in the Oregon offense in the 2022 season, which would have been his fourth with the Ducks. 

The team is yet to release a statement on the matter, but head coach Dan Lanning had this to say on Twitter:

Webb, star of the Christian Brothers, Sacramento Bee All-Metro, and artist of the decade, overcame a broken family, was raised by an older brother, and is preparing for his fourth season at the University of London this summer. Spencer Webb on Wednesday, July 13, after hitting his head on a bluff west of Triangle Lake in Lane County, less than a mile from Eugene on the University of Oregon campus. Unfortunate death.

Oregon State football player Spencer Webb of the Oregon Ducks died from a head injury after falling near Triangle Lake, west of Eugene, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday, according to social media and news channels. A person close to the Oregon Ducks football team told me Spencer Webb died in a cliff diving accident. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page Thursday night that after receiving a report of an injured man, “officials found Webb fell and hit him in the head. Relatives, but several were with Webb. People close to him responded on social media that he had died.

The Sacramento Bee report says the Lane County Sheriff’s Office press release on its Facebook page concerns Webbs’ death after contacting his family and high school coach.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rock slides just a short distance west of Triangle Lake at approximately 2:30pm after receiving the report of an injured person.  Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 22 year old male recreating in the area fell and struck his head.  Bystanders and responding paramedics were unable to revive him.  Lane County Sheriff Search and Rescue personnel responded to assist with bringing him back to the roadway as he was approximately 100 yards down a steep trail.  

There is no evidence of foul play and his death appears to be accidental.  The victim’s name is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.

According to Ducks Wire, Spencer Webb’s name and identity were initially kept under wraps as next of kin were not notified, but the first report came on Wednesday, July 13 at around 4:00 pm. Spence Webb tragically died on July 13, 2022, at 22.
